Release notes — mintOps

What changed in each version. iPhone and iPad builds ship through the App Store and TestFlight; the Mac app ships as a notarized Developer ID build from this site. The Mac version will no longer be distributed through the App Store. Build numbers are dates in yymmddHHMM form.

1.1 — 14 October 2026 (Mac download)

Out first as the Mac download (build 2610141252). On iPhone and iPad there is no 1.0: this 1.1 is the first App Store version, with the same features apart from the Mac-only ones.

Mac

  • One server per window: a new window shows the connection list in the middle, and connecting turns that window into the server’s screen. Open more servers in new windows (⌘N); picking one that is already open brings its window forward.
  • This Mac: the app runs herdr on your Mac directly — no Remote Login, no password — and opens the same herdr screen as for a remote server. An installed herdr is used first, the built-in one otherwise; if the installed one is far older than the built-in one, mintOps asks once which to use and remembers.
  • herdr built in: This Mac and Server Mode open herdr without installing it on the Mac.
  • Server Mode and iCloud: with the Mac app running as a server (optionally from login), the Mac shows up as one of “My Macs” on iPhones and iPads on the same iCloud account, and the keys those devices create are allowed on the Mac through iCloud. Block a device or revoke its key from the Mac. With no Mac yet, the My Macs section on iPhone and iPad says what to do and links to the Mac app download.
  • Screen sharing: turn on Server Mode › Screen Sharing and see and control this Mac from an iPhone, iPad or another Mac with one button (⇧⌘R). mintOps shares the screen itself, with no separate remote-desktop app (RustDesk-protocol compatible), and the password travels through iCloud, so nothing is asked. Multiple displays, a list of who is watching with Disconnect, and the screen kept awake while watched. Needs the Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions.
  • The prompt composer shows its send (⌘↩) and new-line (⌥↩) keys, with a ? guide. Return and ⇧↩ no longer select the whole prompt for the next keystroke to replace.
  • The tailcat command-line tool and forwarding of the system ssh-agent come with the download.

herdr

  • Keyboard shortcuts on Mac and iPad: ⌘1–9 spaces, ⌥⌘1–9 tabs, ⇧⌘[ ⇧⌘] previous/next tab, ⌥⌘+arrows between panes, ⌘D/⇧⌘D split, ⌘W close a pane, ⇧⌘↩ zoom, ⌘T new tab, ⇧⌘N new space, ⇧⌘F files, ⇧⌘P web preview, ⌃⌘S sidebar. Hold ⌘ for a second to see them on spaces and tabs.
  • Show All Workspaces: every space in a grid with the screen you last saw, to switch to, create or close. Search and arrow keys; pinch in with two fingers on iPad.
  • Worktrees: worktree spaces grouped under their repository (the head row shows the primary branch), with create, open, delete checkout and close space in the app.
  • Sessions are remembered across suspend and app restarts, and the last one reconnects to the same space, tab and pane.
  • The scroll position holds when the keyboard or composer comes and goes and when you switch tabs; half a page up, a “Scroll to bottom” button appears.
  • Tapping a pane’s terminal area activates the pane (blue border), and the sidebar’s “Spaces” title row stays pinned.

Agent notifications

  • When an agent in herdr asks a question (approve, choose) or finishes, you get a notification that opens its pane. Local notifications on the Mac; push notifications on iPhone and iPad, free up to 50 a day per device (one notice when the limit is reached, today’s count in Settings). The host needs python3.

Connecting

  • Paste a connection block: one JSON block carries everything — kind, address, port, user, sign-in method, password or SSH key, Tailcat identity key and a name. Paste it with the Paste button at the top of the New Connection screen and every field is filled in and the keys are stored. Line breaks and curly quotes picked up when copying from a terminal or an email are handled.
  • Connect is never greyed out. Pressing it highlights what is missing in red and says what to enter, and connecting to a Tailcat server without an identity key (Ephemeral) gets a warning first.
  • SSH agent forwarding: for key-authenticated connections (Tailcat included), git push and ssh from the server with the app’s keys, without copying private keys there. Works in herdr panes too. Asks on the first signature, with “don’t ask again”.
  • tailcat 0.7.0. A Tailcat server reached by DNS name gets a warning if it lets any device in.

Screen and input

  • Light and dark mode follow the system, including the terminal (background, ANSI colors, cursor) and the file viewer. Eight terminal color themes (four dark, four light).
  • Select and copy text in the terminal on iPhone and iPad: triple-tap for a line, drag to extend, long press for the menu. A “mouse” key in the key row turns on mouse mode for tmux and vim.
  • Terminals open full size with neither keyboard nor composer up, and the keyboard no longer covers the terminal or the key row.
  • A copy button in the file viewer (text as text, images as images).

Web preview (Mac download build 2610251409, 25 October 2026)

  • Browser tabs keep a cache per server, working folder and port, so reopening one no longer downloads everything again, and relaunching the app returns to the tab and address you were on (logins and cookies are not kept).
  • ⓘ on the selected tab shows the server address, bind and cache size and clears that tab’s cache. The per-tab cache limit (200 MB by default) is in Settings › Web Preview, along with Clear All.

herdr scrolling (Mac download build 2610251649, 25 October 2026)

  • Panes with no scrollback, such as Claude Code full screen, less or vim, now scroll with a finger or the wheel: dragging sends the program wheel input (one notch per 3 rows) and the program scrolls itself.

herdr 0.9.5 and version mismatch guidance (Mac download build 2610260938, 26 October 2026)

  • The bundled herdr is now 0.9.5.
  • When a running herdr server’s protocol does not match the herdr the app uses (an old server, or a newer one), the app used to report “no server is running” and try to start another. It now shows both versions and protocols and lists, in order, what to do: restart the server (herdr server stop, with a warning that programs in its panes end), the upgrade command for how herdr was installed (Homebrew or herdr update), or update mintOps. Commands can be copied, and Retry on that screen now really retries.

Automatic updates (Mac download build 2610261347, 26 October 2026)

  • The Mac download installs new builds by itself. When the app opens or comes to the front (and hourly while it runs in Server Mode) it checks for a newer build, downloads it, verifies the signature and notarization, swaps it in and relaunches. No more downloading and moving a zip. This starts with this build, so install this one by hand once.

Automatic update check build (Mac download build 2610271150, 27 October 2026)

  • Rebuilt with no code changes, to confirm that a Mac running 2610261347 downloads, verifies and swaps in a new build on its own.

Privacy

  • With agent push notifications turned on, notifications go through Mintech’s notification relay (relay.mintech.kr). It keeps only what delivery needs, such as the device’s push token, and does not store notification content. The privacy policy is updated.

1.0 — 18 September 2026 (first release)

The first public version. The Mac app was released on the Mac App Store on 18 September 2026; from 1.1 on, the Mac version is distributed only from this site. The iPhone and iPad 1.0 was not released; they start with 1.1.

Tailcat support

  • Connect through a WireGuard tunnel to servers with no public IP, no VPN and no account. One tailcat serve 22 on the server is all it takes.
  • Identity keys are generated in the app and kept in the Keychain; existing *.private.json keys can be imported.
  • Connections start through a DERP relay and upgrade to a direct peer-to-peer path when possible; the session tab shows which.
  • Supports tailcat 0.6.0’s pre-shared-key addresses.

Native herdr support

  • Detects herdr on the server and renders spaces, tabs, split panes and agents as native screens.
  • Create and rename spaces and tabs; pick a session on hosts that run several.
  • Pane scrolling with inertia and edge bounce; the screen moves before the server answers.
  • Hosts without herdr get a notice and, if you want, a plain terminal.

Reviewing the agent’s work

  • File viewer: changed files with side-by-side or unified diffs (diff2html), plus Markdown (MarkdownUI), HTML, images, PDFs and source (Highlightr).
  • Web preview: HTTP servers started in the workspace are found and opened in an in-app browser over a forwarded port.

Terminal

  • iPhone and iPad: a key row with esc, ctrl, alt, tab and arrows, a multi-page custom keypad, and a prompt composer.
  • Mac: menu bar Settings and About, keyboard shortcuts, split views.
  • SwiftTerm terminal, Metal rendering (optional), 256 colours and true colour, mouse support. SSH by Citadel/SwiftNIO SSH.
  • Close on the connection error screen, Cancel while connecting, readable error messages.

Privacy

  • No accounts and no relay servers operated by Mintech (until agent push notifications, optional, in 1.1). Connection details and keys stay on your device. Privacy policy · Open source software
